Mission
Statement of the Indian YMCA
The Mission Statement of the Indian
YMCA as adopted at
the
Madhurai Convention in January 1998 is stated below.
"The Young Men's
Christian Association of India seeks to unite men, women, youth and
children as co-workers with God to promote mutually caring, loving and
humane communities. Accordingly, the YMCA participates in God's mission of
restoring abundant life to all, with special concern for the most
distressed and dehumanized in the country:
The Indian YMCA is committed to strive for a just society where
oppression, exploitation and denial of life is confronted and transformed. It believes in the sanctity of all life and
preservation
of all God's creation. It stands for renewal and reconciliation in broken communities."
Kollam YMCA has one branch, a Community College and different
departments conducting variety programmes and activities.

Medical camps:
YMCA, Kollam
organizes free Medical camps for Ayurvedic and
Homeopathic treatments.
 |

|
YMCA, in association with Help Age India, organized a
specialized medical camp on 15th August 2006. Specialized
doctors were arranged in General category; Gynaecology,
Pediatric, Geriatric, Skin, ENT, and Orthopaedic. Doctors
of the camp were Dr. Anish G. Cherian, Dr. Alan, Dr.
Merlin, Dr. P. Radhabhai, Dr. Dhanya George, Dr.
Susannamma, Dr. Praveen G. Pai, Dr. Manoj V. Mathew, Dr.
George Chacko and Dr. Cherian Kuruvila.
District Cancer Detection Centre, Kollam,
organized free cancer diagnosis during the camp. Around
500 persons were benefited by the medical camp.

YMCA,
Kollam organizes various free eye camps every year on
different locations in association with Aravind Eye
Hospital, Madhurai & Nagarkovil. The treatment and surgery
is totally free for those who cannot afford the cost and
expenses. Lot of
patients who where suffering from Cataract and other
deceases get the benefits of these camps annually.
YMCA, under the initiative of Social
Service Committee in association with District Blindness
Control Society and Aravind Eye Hospital organized three
eye camps at YMCA Kollam on May 27th, September 30th and
November 18th 2006. Out of about 3000 patients who
attended the camp, 375 patients underwent surgery for
cataract.

Chess: YMCA, Kollam
conducts regular coaching camp for Chess in association with
the Kollam District Chess Association.
YMCA, Kollam also
conducts Summer Coaching Camps successfully during
the summer holidays. A total of 400 students attended the
various classes in public speaking, Personality Development,
Painting, Drawing, Glass painting, Fabric painting, Ceramic
work, Craft, Soft toys, Hand embroidery, Table tennis,
Basket ball, Shuttle Badminton, Roller Skating, Kung-fu,
Yoga, Karate, Cricket, Chess. All the participants were
given certificates and special prizes were given to the best
performers.
